How to Select the Right Home Workout Programs for You
When it comes to home workout programs, you have many choices. These choices run from the basic to the advanced, from the routine to the exotic. Some need special equipment or clothing. Others don't require much of anything, except you.
Most people try many different types of home exercise before they find what suits them best. You'll probably have a similar experience. But there is no reason why you have to choose only one type of home workout program. Why not try several? In fact, there is evidence to support the value of mixing it up a bit, doing one type of exercise 2 to 3 days a week, and another the other days.
Here are just a few of the many choices you have when it comes to home exercise programs...
- Stretching, yoga, or pilates
- Weight training or lifting
- Walking, jogging, or running
- Bicycling or spinning
- Home gym
- Exercise video
- Dancing or dance aerobics
- Regular or step aerobics
- Kickboxing, Tae Bo, or other martial arts
- Tai chi
There are probably other types of home programs than those mentioned above. How you choose will depend largely on your exercise goals. For example, are you trying to lose weight? Or maybe you want to tone your muscles all over or in a certain area? Or, perhaps you're trying to build endurance. Some people use exercise to relieve stress.
Another factor in choosing your home exercise programs is personal preference. If you hate running, then no matter what the possible benefits, it's probably not the best choice for you. You also need to examine your abilities when you're getting started. If you've never been active before, it might be safest and easiest to start with a basic exercise like walking, rather than something as challenging as aerobics or jogging. You can always move on to more advanced exercises as your abilities and endurance for exercise improves.
The articles you'll find listed below can help you learn more about the various forms of home exercise programs, so that you can make an informed decision. But remember, much of setting up a home program is about experimentation. Have fun!
